Spring in Kashmir

A place famous for lakes and mountains set like a jeweled crown on the map. Kashmir is a many-faceted diamond changing its character with the four seasons, always extravagantly beautiful.

It comes alive in spring when nature bedecks the valley with blossom after blossom: almond, cherry, apple, peach, pears, pansies, narcissi, daises and many more. Throughout the valley thousands of fruits and flowers burst into bloom exuding and alluring fragnance.

Spring, which extends roughly from March to early May, is when a million blossoms carpet the ground. The weather during this time can be gloriously pleasant at 23oC or chilly and windy at 6oC. This is the season when Srinagar experiences rains, but the showers are brief.

Spring blossoms suddenly appear on seemingly dead branches, heralds of the coming spring. They represent the gentle, almost unnoticed flowering of enlightenment, the surprisingly quiet recognition of the mind. These spring blossoms appear only after the hard, lonely winter of meditation and spiritual practice, yet when they peek forth, their appearance is natural, effortless. Spring blossoms are the new life that emerges from the dead branches of the little self, they simply emerge when the limited ego has passed through its seasons and withered away.

Spring season sets in March and continues till early May. The weather then is very pleasant and it would be no exaggeration to compare it with that of Switzerland. Kashmir raps itself in an emerald green jacket with flowery designs all over. The sight has a rich yet ethereal touch. Daisies cover the parks and gardens. The Climate of Jammu and Kashmir at this time of the year is ideally suited to thoroughly enjoy the beauty of the place.
